On Friday, 26th September 2025, Friends Church (Quakers) Kenya convened its inaugural Commissions and Committees meeting at Friends Church Handidi. This historic gathering marked the first time the newly established structures under the recently promulgated constitution came together to officially begin their work.

Quoting from Psalm 133:1–3, he highlighted the importance of unity: “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” He called on all to work together in harmony, setting aside personal ambitions and focusing on the greater calling of serving God through the Church.

The meeting brought together commissioners and committee members drawn from across the country, reflecting the Church’s commitment to strengthening governance, accountability, and service. It was a moment filled with prayer, fellowship, and a shared vision of building a stronger Friends Church community. During the session, the Commissions and Committees conducted nominations to select their new leadership teams. These leaders will serve for the next three years, guiding the work of the various commissions in advancing the mission and ministry of the Church. The process was prayerful and participatory, ensuring inclusivity and fairness.

Collective Responsibility

Speaking at the event, the National Presiding Clerk, Bro. Stephen Magwilu, called on all commissioners and committee members to embrace their responsibilities with humility, unity, and dedication. He reminded all present that true leadership is rooted in service to Christ and His body, the Church.

In his address, Bro. Magwilu emphasized that although only a few would be chosen to take up leadership roles, every commissioner and committee member remains essential to the success of the commissions. He urged those not nominated to stand firmly in support of those who were selected, noting that collective effort is the key to achieving the Church’s mission.

The Clerk’s rallying call was clear: “Let us unite and serve the body of Christ with utmost integrity, ensuring that each commissioner and committee member is present and available whenever called upon.” His words served as a reminder of the sacred responsibility that comes with leadership within Friends Church.

This inaugural meeting was not just about leadership nominations; it was also a symbolic step towards a renewed spirit of collaboration within Friends Church Kenya. As the commissions embark on their work, the call to unity, service, and accountability will remain central in shaping the next chapter of the Church’s journey
